Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Muslim women in contemporary Islam, with a particular focus on the dynamics between emancipation and tradition, especially in Indonesia. The research employs a literature review of classical and contemporary sources, case studies of Muslim women’s organizations, and observations of social and digital phenomena. The findings indicate that Islam provides a strong foundation for gender equality, as reflected in the Qur’an, Hadith, and the historical practices of Muslim women. Indonesian Muslim women actively participate in education, the economy, politics, and religious life, while utilizing digital platforms for advocacy and empowerment. The dilemma between emancipation and tradition can be addressed through inclusive Islamic understanding, comprehensive education, and supportive social and policy frameworks. This study emphasizes the importance of empowering modern Muslim women to balance their religious, professional, and social identities, thereby contributing optimally to societal development.
